WELCOME

Welcome to Golgotha Uniting Church

The Golgotha Church is a vibrant and active Church faith community led by Pastor Denis Msema. For two years the Church has met at the Playford Uniting Church on Sunday afternoons between 1.30pm and 4.30pm. Their worship has between 120 to 140 people who call Golgotha their Church. They identify themselves as Swahili speaking and it is this group that are attracted to Golgotha.

We the Golgotha Church, under the leadership of Jesus Christ are a strong and resilient community with a clear vision of what we want to achieve. We come from a shared cultural experience and one that we want to both maintain and honour while also growing into the Australian culture. We have many skills and life experiences that we can use to the benefit of many and have a story to tell about how great our God is to those who will listen.

The Church welcomes new arrivals to Australia and supports them in practical ways.  When a brother or sister is in need they support where they can. In the case of a death the Church will fund raise to support a widow or orphaned children. The Church community comes together to help each other with community events such as weddings. Women support each other when a new baby arrives or when there is sickness. Hospitality is important that is valued and practiced.  The Church community comes together for a shared meal every three months.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Upcoming events will be posted here.

VOLUNTEERING

The Golgotha congregation consists of people who have arrived in Australia after spending between five and twenty-one years in refugee camps in East Africa.

When a new Swahili speaking individual or family arrive in the Playford region of South Australia from a refugee camp, the Golgotha Church supports the new arrivals. The Church does not know how many or when they will arrive. For example, in In July 2022, seventeen people arrived. The Golgotha Church provides assistance to new arrivals with practical things including:

Clothing

Food

Transport

Accompanying to appointments

Shopping

Accommodation

Furniture

Driving lessons.

They are often stretched to meet these needs, time, resources and funds.

The Golgotha community consists of a number of low-income households. Rising rent and food costs mean for those living on New Start Allowance, they are living on a survival level. Separate to their Church giving, many in the congregation send money to their families in their originating home countries.
